Amati String Studio

Director’s Message

Amy Florence Levinson has been teaching in Vancouver for over 20 years. For many of those years, Amati String Studio, as it is now, was just a dream that had its beginnings in the basement of her Alma Street home (then called Levinson Studio). Over twelve years the home violin studio grew beyond its walls encouraging Amy to make her dream into a reality!

After looking all over the city for the perfect location, which would allow for a balance of private instruction as well as being able to accommodate the numbers of students in group classes, Amy discovered Amati’s current home. The summer of 2000 saw Amy managing the construction of the new studio, preparing to open the doors of Amati String Studio in September 2000. Three new bright classrooms welcomed students old and new. Amati continued to grow, and over the next two years, saw the construction and transformation of two additional classrooms.

Now, eight years after opening, Amati has grown from it’s original 3 classrooms and an office to it’s present 5 classrooms with a small library, and Gallery all tucked away, out of sight, in the basement level of the Arbutus Shopping Centre. Presently, Amati operates as a private music school with over 250 students enrolled in violin, viola, guitar, music theory, and piano. The Director, Amy Levinson, invites you to come and explore the many treasures Amati has to offer as Vancouver’s only specialized music school for string instrument players.
